Mr London Underground Platform Announcer

There is a happy soul on the London Underground.

HA! I saw you frown questioningly.

If you are a regular London Underground commuter, like me, then you will know only too well that ‘happy’ and ‘London Underground’ won’t typically be mentioned in the same sentence.

But sometimes, there will be an exception to the rule.

Most mornings I pry myself away from Little Button and head out to central London on the tube to work. Its doom and gloom, especially on a Monday morning. Though recently, something has changed…or should I say someone.

A Breath of Fresh Air

A new voice has made itself clear. It has even the grouchiest commuter chuckling. Meet London Undergrounds ray of sunshine Mr Platform Announcer.

Brilliant! Having commuted in London in the past, I can totally understand those horrible mornings on the underground and the need for a laugh. What a breath of fresh air this announcer must have been! Lets get him onboard all the time! xx #dreamteam

I love your drawings! Things like a chirpy train guy make such a difference to the drudgery. I can’t remember which station it is (maybe it’s a few?) but there’s a whiteboard with a quote of the day at the entrance which I think is brilliant too. #DreamTeam

Oh! Brilliant! I love it when we get a ‘break from the norm’ and someone just goes for it and lightens people’s mood. Happiness is contagious. Fun is contagious. Laughter is contagious.

I was sitting in a waiting room as one of 12 Jury Members awaiting Jury duty last week. It was sooooo quiet. No one dared speak or look at each other and it was so awkward that in the end I just giggled and said ‘I feel like I should start a Mexican Wave or something to break the ice.’ Everyone started laughing and then the conversations started.

I hope Mr Underground man is the first of many such folks popping up all over London and in different walks of life…If not, perhaps we can be the Mr Undergound conductor in our own circles.

    Loved this. Thanks.

Little things like that really help brighten up your day, don’t they? I wish I had someone to amuse me on the commute to work with the baby in tow (I drop her off at nursery on the way to the office) – it would make that bus ride much more pleasant. #DreamTeam

hahaha! I love this! Every now and again you get a wonderful person like that brighten up your day. They 100% deserve praise. We once had the most amazing pilot. Despite a delayed flight that was beyond his control…he allowed all the kids up into the cockpit for a nosey, kept us regularly updated and made jokes aplenty!

Lovely to also discover a new blogger. Your drawings are gorgeous. #DreamTeam

  23. July 12, 2016 / 6:15 pm

I love him!! People like this are the best, I adore a cheerful person. When I’ve worked in restaurants and bars I’ve always been so friendly to people – it makes MY day better if I try to be positive and happy, so if it makes anyone else a bit chirpier then that’s even better.
Your drawings are wonderful, as always! #DreamTeam

  24. July 12, 2016 / 6:31 pm

I think I’ve heard this man before – or it was someone similar. It’s so nice for them to stray from the boring script they usually recite! 🙂 PS I am loving the illustrations – they really capture the moment. 🙂 #DreamTeam

  32. July 14, 2016 / 11:08 am

I am not from London but in the Philippines I am a commuter and I know the importance of a happy soul in the mornings! And I am sure that that guy would be happy to get some appreciation from the passengers!

    Love the doodles too!
