The Sound Machine

June 19, 2017

We really do adore her,

And love her just to bits,

But our lovely little sound machine,

Can be really quite a… little darling!

I’d like to say it happens,

Every now and then,

That silence falls at least between,

Midnight and 5am.

But our sound machine just won’t let up,

It’s a never ending stream,

Because every tiny second,

Is an opportunity to scream!

At 4am on the dot,

A shrill noise can be heard,

Up and down the street,

There’s no question of it not being heard.

Mummy, mummy, mummy!

Begins the sound machine,

Louder, louder and louder,

I know you can picture the scene.

This noisy little rascal,

Goes on and on and on,

Then finally she just can’t help it,

And breaks out into sing-song.

All day we’re treated to honks, toots and bleats,

It really is quite impressive,

Who knew our little sound machine,

Could be this super expressive.

We nod along politely,

And through gritted teeth we hear,

A pick a mix of gawd-knows-what,

Blasting in our ears.

A lunchtime matinee of Trolls,

Which I secretly enjoy,

Drives Daddy Button round the bend,

When she starts up her very own encore.

Dinner is a disco,

She is the Dj you see,

Banging, clanging and shrieking,

Footloose and fancy-free.

It’s night time now,

The house is still,

The pets are all in bed,

But our lovely little sound machine,

Is now trying to spin upon her head.

There really is no let up,

No peace or calm at all,

But we love our little sound machine,

Hoots and toots galore.

And as they say… if you can’t beat them, join them!
