Once in a while a truly ground-breaking children’s toy will pop up out of nowhere.
It will make your heart sing for all the right reasons and then pull you back to your own childhood memories, making you wish that something like this was around when you were growing up. You might even wonder why you hadn’t thought of it yourself!
This is that moment.
I am so delighted to be able to introduce you to Playpress. A fabulous pop-out and create play world that will keep little fingers busy and imaginations soaring.
The inventors at Playpress have been busy over the last 2 years working on developing a range of exciting play sets. The idea is that little ones will receive a flat pack of the toy, which they will then be able to enjoy constructing and designing into their own Playpress world.
Co-founder and Chief Play Maker, Matthew Wright explains: “I was inspired by lots of amazing toys as a kid and wanted to create something as inspiring which was not only super-fun to play with but also something I would have been able to buy with my own pocket money”. The sets are eco-friendly and made from 100% recyclable board. This helps to keep them at affordable prices and perfect for pocket money buys and reward chart treats.
We were recently invited to try out a pre-release version of the Playpress Newsstand set. Here is how we got on.
Building The Dream
As expected, the Playpress Newsstand set arrived as a complete flat pack package. Little Button is fascinated with putting things together, so she very seriously decided to set up her ‘own workshop’ in the office to give it a go herself.
The Playpress sets are aimed at children aged 5 – 10 years old, however, at almost 4 years old, she fully understood the concept of popping out the pieces and slotting them together. She was able to do this on her own to build the people much to her delight.
The pieces were all very well made and remained in one-piece despite her fiddley thumbs and being jabbed into the wrong slots on a number of occasions.
Next, we moved onto the Newsstand set itself. In all honestly, as she started popping out all the pieces, I was left wondering how on earth we would put it all together. However, the clever play makers at Playpress have thought of everything, and some very easy peasy instructions meant that slotting the set together was in fact a doddle.
Ta-dah! Here is our finished playset. It was so much fun to create, and really encouraged lots of team work, problem solving and decision making skills along the way.
Once created, Little Button spent a good hour or so devising games around the Playpress set. Taking bits apart and them re building them, then finally roping in a few of her existing toys to join in the fun. She has played with the set everyday so far, and is keen on adding more to her collection. We love how the little world is a reflection of the everyday and leans towards being gender neutral, making it a universal toy to be enjoyed by all.
Make it happen
Playpress are crowd-funding via Kickstart in order to be able to launch their innovative new play world.
