Christmas is coming! And… that can only mean one thing *apart from turning up the Michael Buble Christmas album on repeat…. yup, it’s Christmas show time.
I don’t know about you, but I haven’t booked anything just yet. There are so many choices of family Christmas shows to see. Some eye wincingly expensive, some cheap and cheerful, and some that will turn you into Mr Scrooge in a heart beat *is it bliming nearly finished yet? Whisper… or maybe shout the grown ups after 5 mins. It’s a mind boggle of options, but I’ve been on the look out and made a list of some fab finds. Here’s our list of fun family Christmas shows to see in London this year.
1. Frozen the musical – Drury Lane
We’ve actually already seen this earlier in the year, and WOW, Frozen is just so beautifully done. It’s fun, magical and leaves you feeling all warm and snuggly in the best possible way. We’d definitely see it again.
2. Horrible Histories – Horrible Christmas! – London Barbican Hall
As something that we haven’t seen, this is so high up on our list to see. The little one absolutely LOVES Horrible Histories and I’m certainly up for all the giggles at this time of year.
3. The Snowman – Peacock theatre
Ok, so it may be true that before the little one was even a star in the sky, us grown ups decided to go and see The Snowman one Christmas. It’s playful, light hearted, and can it even be Christmas without The Snowman!

4. Elf the musical – Dominion theatre
This is another one that we’ve previously seen. As big Elf the movie fans, it only seemed fitting to see it in it’s musical form. The little one absolutely loved it! It’s a very big production, with a lot going on, perfect for wriggly little ones as there was always something to entertain them. A Christmas feast for the eyes.
5. Dolly Parton’s smoky mountain Christmas carol – Southbank Centre
If you love Scrooge, then this reimagined tale could be perfect for you. It’s a brand new show that looks visually beautiful, and well… it’s created by the amazing Dolly Parton, so it has to be a #winner.

6. The Fir Tree – Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre
7. The Nutcracker – Royal Albert Hall
8. West End Musical Christmas – Lyric theatre
This fab sing-a-long AND dance-a-long treat looks like a whole lot of fun for families with tweens and above! It’s only on for one night though, so bag your ticket quick if you’re going.
9. Julia Donaldon’s Stickman – Leicester square theatre
10. Father Christmas needs a wee! – Arts theatre, Leicester square
11. Bugsy Malone the musical – Alexandra Palace
Who remembers Bugsy Malone? Me too. Wasn’t it brilliant. I don’t think any Christmas passed by, when I was little, that it wasn’t playing on our TV at some point. This musical has me very, very tempted!

12. Rapunzel on ice – Alexandra Palace
We love the Alexandra Palace ice dancing Christmas shows! It’s a bit low-key and super laid back, but that’s absolutely the whole charm of it. And, making it our most PERFECT Christmas show to go to with very little ones. It books out so fast, so you’ll need to be quick for this one.
13. Dream Big Disney on Ice – The O2
I ummmed, and arrr’d about going to see this, but actually, it’s completely amazing! We went a few years back and we were ALL absolutely mesmerised. The ice dancing, the costumes, the music. It completely transports you! If you’ve not seen it, we would absolutely recommend it, without a doubt.
14. A Christmas to remember Aljaz and Jeanette (for Strictly fans!)

16. The lion, witch and the wardrobe – Gillian Lynne theatre
17. Circus 1903 – Eventim Apollo
Is there anything more thrilling than an exciting circus show of puppetry (the animals featured in this circus), and jaw-dropping acrobatics. Friends of ours have seen this and have said it’s incredible.
Great family shows listed here, Annette, I’m going to see my son’s step daughter dance in our local pantomine#dreamteam
I think I saw something simillar to Circus 1903 many years ago – I loved it. We are getting Slava Snow Show for xmas, so hopefully all the fam will be available for that (I’ve seen it every time it’s been here and even the kids have been once) but so magic! You are so lucky to have so much choice! #Deamteam
So many good shows on this year! I really want to go and see Elf looks so fun.
I’d love to see Elf The Musical with the family. We love Elf and we love musicals. It seems perfect to me!
So many wonderful shows in this list! It is going to be difficult to choose. I will leave it to my kids to choose the one they’d want to see. If it was just me who’ll decide, I’d go for Elf the Musical. That sure sounds like a winner.
There is nothing that gets you in the festive mood more than a good Christmas show or panto. There are so many to choose from too.
Wow! All of this shows look amazing. my daughter is 6 at the moment and one of her favourite movies is Frozen. She would love that one. Thanks a lot for sharing!
I’ve seen Frozen before and it’s fab. I am going to see Elf this evening and I am so excited, I can’t wait to feel all festive x
All of these shows would be great choices. My niece is still crazy about Frozen, but I’d like to take her to Elf the Musical, this looks like great fun!
What a fun show for the family this holiday season! I’ve actually never seen Frozen but a live show sounds like fun. The Nutcracker is always a classic!
I love live theatre, especially at the holidays. I have wanted to see the Elf musical for a while and the Circus 1903 looks very interesting.
There are so many great shows to choose from! I wish I were closer and able to see some of these; I know the kids would really enjoy it.
