It’s no secret. We LOVE Netflix! There’s always something new or forgotten to catch up with. And, there’s always something for everyone to enjoy, whether it’s for a family movie or date night…if in doubt, ‘Netflix and Chill’ will always be a winner. Here are 7 eye popping thrillers to watch on Netflix this June.
1. Sweet Tooth (12)
Not exactly a thriller, but Sweet Tooth is certainly eye popping. It’s the new Netflix series (8 episodes) which follows the brave story of Sweet Tooth, a half-human half-deer little boy on his adventures to find his mum. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, his journey is perilous, with hunters lurking around every corner hoping to snaffle away as many of his kind as possible. The thing that we loved about this series is that it feels so real, and you really root for Sweet Tooth to be ok!
2. The Intruder (15)
Can you imagine buying the house of your dreams, only to find that the seller isn’t planning to move on any time soon. Gulp! I was expecting this to be quite predictable, but actually, it does throw you about quite a bit before finishing with a solid and satisfying ending.
3. Awake (15)
Awake stars Gina Rodriguez from Netflix’s Jane The Virgin. I’ve seen quite a few negative reviews on the movie, especially around the idea of Netflix trying to grab onto the Jane The Virgin fan base to make this one a success. But, I’m so pleased that I blotted out the negativity because this is actually a great movie. A global event stops everyone’s ability to sleep and, sleep deprived (something us parents will know only too well), we see everyone start to unravel. It’s got the highs, lows and all those OMG’s they are never going to make it moments all packaged up neatly and ready to go. I actually loved this as a date night movie (with popcorn!).
4. Strange But True (12)
Based on a book and not particularly high budget, this movie won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s one of those watches where you need to know what happens once you’ve started watching it! The story follows a girl who claims that she’s pregnant with her former boyfriend’s child. Except, the thing is, he passed away five years ago!
5. Oxygen (15)
Do you remember that Tom Hanks movie where it was just him on an island… well Oxygen is like that (as in, it stars 1 person), but so cleverly done that you don’t even notice! It’s about Liz, who wakes up in a cryogenic unit… somewhere! It’s a fight for survival to get out before her oxygen disappears. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole thing!
6. Secret Obsession (15)
If I had to sum up this movie it would be ‘what, the what just happened?!’ It’s slick, fast and thoughtfully filmed, making this an unexpectedly glossy high end watch. It’s about Jennifer who is recovering from a traumatic attack. She has amnesia, which puts her at risk from tumbling into more danger than she realises.
7. Sightless (15)
Oh my gosh! If ever you want a thriller that’s going to keep you on your toes, in fright, horror and completely puzzled, then this is it! Sightless follows a former violinist as she recovers from an accident that has left her blind. It stars Madelaine Petsch (from Riverdale) and I kid you not, she’s incredible in this. You are taken on her sightless journey, from trust to deep suspicion. I can’t really say anymore as it will ruin the story, but this is definitely my top thriller pick!
