For your teachers, on their first day of school with the newbies

September 5, 2017

Good morning teachers!

Welcome to your very own class of newbies for this new academic year. Look at all their little eager faces.

Or not.

Yes. Someone will always be breaking their heart and sobbing in the doorway with mum.

There will be those that simply just sit and stare, possibly scared stiff perhaps? But don’t worry, it’s not you.

You’ll probably have some old hat nursery faces, who, having never EVER played together before, will now be running-a-mock as glued together bandits out in the playground. Refusing to say goodbye to bewildered mums and dads and scaring the living day lights out of the new classroom assistant who’s only just got her first aid certificate. But don’t worry, it’s not you.

Somebody WILL be undoing your handy work. Carefully mixing up your colour coordinated book displays. Your neatly placed pencils and rubbers are now being used as a fort, make-shift train track, a sword and shield?! But don’t worry, it’s not you.

Amongst the chaos will be us. My little one is likely to be the one hiding behind me. I’ll avoid the blushes and not wear lose fitting clothing incase she decides to attempt to use them as an invisibility cloak. Because let me tell you, retrieving a little one from under your top without flashing your boobies it’s pretty tricky stuff.

Millie's Beach Huts

And, whilst she may be doing her best impression of Harry Potter and vanishing before your very eyes today. Here’s the thing; it’s most definitely not because of you.

She’s actually very excited to be in your class and has only heard the highest of praises about you. She wants to be here and is ready to grab all that knowledge we know you are so keen to share.

Kew Gardens

Get to know our little disappearing magician and you will find that actually, she’s quite the opposite of what she first seems. She’s no meek mouse. Strong willed to always do the right thing, kind and generous are her super powers. She’s just hiding them away right now, because first days are always a bit scary aren’t they.

Little List of Sunshine

And, whilst there’s no doubt in my mind that it will be like trying to pull grilled cheese off toast today, we know she’s ready for this new adventure and her chance to shine.

Enjoy your new class of newbies! For they will never forget how you made them feel on their first day of school.

  1. Annette this is so perfect. Your little magician is such a star and you must be so proud of her. I know her teachers will love her to bits – even if there is a bit of a “grilled cheese” moment at the outset. Thinking of you all. Here’s to new the adventures xx

Lovely post. My daughter is the same, so quiet and shy in front of her new teacher. But later on at home, she will tell me how much she likes her. Best of luck!

  10. Oh this is such a beautiful beautiful post and your daughter’s teacher is very lucky to have both your daughter in her class and you as her mum. What a wonderful way to write about that first day. Magical #DreamTeam

  11. Adorable! Teachers sometimes get a bad rap and they have to deal with so much. I’m happy there’s others praising teachers and building them up, not bashing them. #DreamTeam

  12. Great post – always feel for the teacher who need to start the year off with all these little ones. Each with their own little personality.#dreamteam

Bless – teachers are such great people and they sometimes don’t know how much of an impact they have on kids. They really are sometimes under appreciated. Lovely post and will definitely forward to my teacher friends. #DreamTeam

  14. The twins started preschool this year too!

  21. Aw Annette this is amazing – as a reception teacher this is so nice to read. I definitely try to get to know all my newbies as individuals – this is the best part of my job – knowing all these little individuals and helping them grow. Hope it all goes well for you both! Thanks for hosting #DreamTeam

  22. Aw I love the angle you’ve written this post from!! Lol at the classroom assistant who’s only just got her First Aid Cert! Haha!! SUCH a good tip about avoiding the loose fitting clothing! I did not think of that and literally had a cocooned child somewhere among layers of fabric. We definitely had “grilled cheese” moments with our 2 school-goers but they both settled well. Hope your daughter is having a ball x #DreamTeam

  23. Mrs Lighty says:

Only me, popping back over from #DreamTeam. Hope Little Button gets on ok today. I know she’ll be completely fab once she’s settled in! xxx

  32. My daughter is exactly the same. So quiet and barely talks the teacher of her playgroup says. Then within a few weeks they see the real side to her. Fun loving, yes a little quiet but her own kindred spirit who doesn’t take crap off of anyone. #dreamteam
