It happened! I finally got myself a slow cooker. Well, it’s a bit more than a slow cooker really. It’s one of those brilliant Crock-Pot multi cookers that can slow cook, saute, roast, bake and steam. Ekk! *It’s pretty overwhelming when you think that ‘one pot’ can do all that.
The beast, as I like to fondly call it, looks (and is) super easy to use, however I’ve definitely been shying away from giving it a really good go as I’ve not got a clue where to start recipe wise.
I think as a complete slow cooker beginner my worry is getting all the ingredients, cooking it for bliming ages, and then it going horribly wrong and everything being a waste. Now really, this could be said when trying out any new recipe in all honesty, but there’s something about that really really (really) long cooking process that gives me the ‘what if it’s awful’ jelly legs.
So, instead of just winging it *as you do, I decided to ask for a little help with tried and tested, super-dupa easy, slow cooker recipes for beginners!
Boo, Roo and Tigger Too have recommended a tasty BBQ Pulled Pork slow cooker recipe. It’s a slimming world friendly one and best of all it looks very easy to make. *I’ve actually recently made this recipe and it really was very easy to make. Yay! Here’s how it turned out. I was so pleased with it and it made loads and LOADS.
There’s definitely one thing I HAVE to conquer with our Crock-Pot and that is a good lamb dish. It can be quite expensive though can’t it. Big Family Big Fun have found a clever way round the expense with this easy Minted Lamb Stew slow cooker recipe. This is next on my list to try!
I don’t know why, but when I think of a slow cooker I automatically think of meat dishes. However, you can actually make some amazing vegetable based dishes. This slow cooker recipe for Root Vegetable Stew from Hodge Podge Days looks amazing. It does look like it has more ingredients than some of the other recipes, but I’m not going to let that put me off giving this one a try.
This was the first full out slow cooker recipe I tried! It’s a Fruity Beef Casserole slow cooker recipe from Chilling with Lucas. Yum!! I wish I’d taken a photo of it, but everyone was so impressed, that by the time I remembered to take a photo, it had already got eaten. I think the secret fruity addition is so clever!
Kate from Woman of Thin Ice has recommended a slow cooked Brisket of Beef with Beer recipe. It feels like quite an impressive grown up (?) dish, but, the 3 and a half hour cooking time has completely won me over. I might just brave it after a bit more practice. That’s if I can hold out as it does look so so soooo tasty!
A chicken dish! Yes! I’ve been wanting to do a chicken dish, so was really pleased when All About A Mummy suggested a Spanish Chicken slow cooker recipe. We love having wraps on a Saturday night as we want something not too time consuming to make that takes away from fun and games. This recipe does take 8 hours but as its a ‘throw everything in’ type of dish, I think it would be perfect for any busy family.
Yass! Cake. Baking Queen 74 has recommended a ‘wow’ bake of slow cooker Chocolate and Mint Aero Bubble cake. It looks very chocolatey and moreish, exactly the type of cake that you want with a cup of tea on a cold day. The recipe does seems simple enough, so it would be rude not to try it right 😉
Thank you so much to all the lovely bloggers for their recommendations for us beginners!
