A new blog theme

April 4, 2019

If you’re a blogger then you’ll no doubt already know that the sh*t has well and truly hit the fan for a company that develops both blogger and wordpress themes. I caught a little bit of twitter gossip over the weekend but thought nothing of it. Until Monday, that is, when things completely blew up.

There’s a whole heap of information on the web about it. And. It’s confusing. I don’t have the coding knowledge to explain in great detail, so I’m leaving a link to Jenna’s The Bloglancer where she’s broken everything down in an easy read.

And this means….

Well. The long and the short of it is that it’s been strongly recommended, that, if you are using a blog theme and/or plug-ins with the particular company in question, you make sure you update everything ASAP. And then, completely dependant on your own personal views, and without making any rash decisions, maybe think about changing themes. Ekk!

I had THAT theme

So. You know. I had that theme from that company. And. I blinking well loved it. Heck. I loved them. I journeyed from ‘newbie-doesn’t-have-a-clue’ wanna-be blogger to real-life blogger status with them in my corner. It was their theme helping me to achieve the blog look that only I could see in my head.

But. In this situation you can’t ignore the experts, can you? Sadly, I fear, my eyes have been opened to a whole new under-the-radar world. And. I’m not entirely sure what I think now… or maybe I do and just can’t admit it.

But anyway. The point is. I did it. I hitched up my skirts and ran full pelt into looking for a new blog theme on Monday. And you know what. It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it was going to be.

A whole new blog theme

What do you think?

Do you like it?

My brand new theme is ‘pinch of salt’ from Kotryna Bass. And. I LOVE it! There are plenty of blog themes to choose from and most importantly there is a free installation service, which is very helpful if you’re not super confident on the techie side of things.

Changing blog themes in a hurry (never recommended) and out of the blue is daunting. I won’t lie. I cried on the first night that I got my new theme wondering what I had done and convinced I ‘couldn’t do this’.

But. It was ok. More than ok really, thanks to a big dollop of support from the Kotryna Bass team. Who, I can’t recommend enough. I’m still doing tweaks, but I would never have thought within just a few days it would look like this.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is… if you want to change your blog theme, you should.

Don’t let the fear of worrying that you can’t do it stop you. You can definitely do it and there’s a whole heap of amazing developers out there who can and will help you. Some cost an arm and a leg. Some are much more reasonable. But go with your gut on this.

*Kotryna Bass is my own personal recommendation. I have deliberately not added a link as I know developers do not wish to gain from this tricky situation. But obviously, from a bloggers point of view, we’ve all been checking out what each other has got, to work out what might work for us best.

Have you changed your theme lately, if so, which did you go for?

  1. This whole thing was such a big mess wasn’t it. Your new theme looks lovely.

Oh no, what a nightmare! I caught snippets of this on Twitter and didn’t fully understand what it was about.

  3. Looking lovely! In a way it’s probably worked out great for so many bloggers to try out something new (although I appreciate how stressful this must have been).

I can’t believe that they managed to get themselves into that situation and cause so many problems for so many people. And, I love your new Blog theme 🙂

  5. Stephanie says:

It’s been terrible for people and I feel so sorry for them. I didn’t have that theme but I did look at that one to have. New theme looks fab, well done

  6. Sonia says:

Love your new look! I still have a pipdig theme because I just can’t decide which theme I want and I really really love the one we have got.

  7. Anosa says:

All my blog themes were from the said company and now struggled with finding minimal comparable to the said company. Anywho I love your new theme.

  8. I went with X Theme recently. I do like it, but I feel like I am not taking full advantage of all the functionality. I have got to a point where I am okay with how it looks and until I have more time *Cue hysterical laughing* I am not going to play anymore. Yours looks great. Well done!

  9. Éva Katona says:

I like it! It’s nice and light! I used to have pipdig too but changed it about a year ago when my current one was on sale.

  10. Rachael says:

Argh! It has been so stressful, hasn’t it? I had to change mine too and I changed in quite a hurry. I’m sgill not 100% sure I love my new theme but it will do for now. Yours is lovely.

  11. Changing blog themes is daunting how can be good for business as it adds a fresh new look.

I’m updating my websites (actually I’m converting two websites into one) now that isn’t fun. Once the website is done I will have two blogs to change. Not looking forward to that at all.
