Kids have buckets of energy don’t they! They just can’t sit still, which of course is fine under normal circumstances. But, throw in the Coronavirus lockdown and it’s a whole different kettle of fish.
Schools are closed AND social distancing is firmly in place, so that whizzy energy doesn’t have anywhere to easily escape to and can end up leaving the whole house unsettled and in a bad mood.
If you’re playing the difficult role of parent, teacher and working from home all in one go, EVERYONE needs to be focused in order to get stuff done or you’ll gradually come apart at the seams with either homeschooling suffering or working from home coming to a halt.
But don’t worry, there is a way to (sort of) harness that wild energy into something good for them (and you)… by keeping fit.
Are you screaming BBBOOOoooooo at me right now?
You are, aren’t you!
Don’t worry. I probably would have boooed or at least laughed at me saying that 2 weeks ago as well.
Keeping fit?
Keep fit?
No way.
But really. We have found that it works so well. Not only does keeping fit burn off those extra kiddie jitters, but it also makes them (and you) feel happy, filled with positive energy and somehow makes everyone feel more awake and focused.
Now, I’m not saying that you should start doing this…
But there are some brilliant workouts that really don’t feel like workouts at all. And best of all you can join in with them on YouTube at home for FREE!
We did P.E with Joe live on YouTube every day last week. It starts at 9am and it’s a pretty sweat inducing session to say the least. This one does feel like a work out but Joe makes it so much fun AND as it’s live, it gives you that feeling of being connected and part of something special. #WereAllInThisTogether
We did Oti’s kids dance classes all last week too and I have to say, these were amazing! Oti and her partner break each of the dance routines down into manageable steps and again, as it’s live on YouTube (11.30am each day), you get that sense of feeling part of something big. We can’t stop smiling when we do Oti’s classes and they definitely put everyone in an upbeat mood.
Cosmic kids yoga was something recommended by Little Buttons school. It’s great for those afternoons when your little one is still on the go, but needing something a bit calmer to do. *I’m thinking that this will be good for those days where everyone is pooped from the other high energy workouts.
So, it turns out that you don’t even need a games console to join in with Just Dance. You can’t actually score real points with the YouTube version, but who cares when there are so many songs and dances to join in with.
If you need something short and sweet, these easy routines are a lot of fun to join in with. There aren’t that many specifically for kids, but if you have older children, they’ll love the more advanced dances.
This was another one recommended by Little Buttons school. They have a big collection of dance along and fitness YouTube videos with a live session too. We love how these are mostly kid-led, so very relatable for our own little ones.
Ooh this post is so useful! We’ve been loving Joe Wicks and Cosmic Kids already but I definitely need to try Zumba Kids with my two – I’ve been missing my Zumba classes so could be a good compromise! 🙂 xx
We’ve been doing PE with Kids in the mornings. I think we’ll be changing it up a bit next week and doing Cosmic Kids Yoga as there’s a pokemon themed session which my son would love! #DreamTeam
Lots of great ideas here, and even though my kids are not really “kids” anymore, I think we’d enjoy being silly and active with these.
I didn’t even think about the Just Dance Videos on youtube.
We loved the games but our Wii U broke.
Thanks for the ideas.

Nice video ideas. Destroying feather pillows though? No way! Looks fun but what a mess and I love feather pillows (expensive around here)
Oh I totally agree. I just used the image to show the idea of kids going a bit wild if they don’t have something to focus on. Mine wouldn’t dream of doing a feathery pillow fight… but it does look like fun!
Looks like good fun #DreamTeam
Great ideas. We’ve been playing wii bowling and tennis, and last night I dug out the old badminton set…#DreamTeam
All great suggestions! I did the Joe Wicks workout last week. My daughter (2.5yo) wasn’t very enthused but I really enjoyed it … although was feeling it for days afterwards haha. Hope you and the family are keeping well #DreamTeamLinky
Nice suggestions, thank you, I really like the Cosmic Kids Yoga! My son isn’t sold on it yet though, lol x #DreamTeam

We started doing the Joe Wicks one as I do a lot of his workouts and have done his 3 month plan before, but it was only me doing it whilst the kids moaned so we have gone back to playing football or netball for their exercise and I am doing my workouts on my own. #DreamTeamLinky
Unfortunately we’re very limited as we’re in a 4th floor flat with VERY noise sensitive neighbours so can’t jump up & down or do anything that bangs – Cosmic Kids yoga is good though #DreamTeamLinky
