Five Fab Things – 11th March 2023

March 11, 2023

It’s been sooooo hard not to have a gigantic fun-suckery face *permanently etched – at the moment.

As you might already know, the little broke her leg in p.e. at school and this has put a huge stop on everything. Our Strictly Dancing tour tickets had to be given away back in February. Half term was spent at the hospital as surgery was needed on said leg. And, no tickets AT ALL for either Lizzo or Ed Sheeran concerts could be bought. This was especially hard on the little as she adores them both *giant sad face, followed by hours of blasting Lizzo and Ed Sheeran songs.

So… as you can imagine, life in the Button house has been ermmmm pretty pooptastic. Here are my Five Fab Things from this week *digging deep guys, digging deep!

Five fab things

1. This brave girl!

Posted with the littles permission…given the big pink elephant in the room. I am SO, so, so, so, sooooooo proud of her. Not once has she made a fuss about the billions of x rays, plaster on – plaster off’s, surgery and of course all the metal works hidden away in there. Wow! #BravestGirl *mere mortals a.k.a me, would have crumbled into bits by now.

2. Lots of giggles

We’ve been very lucky to get our hands on a preview copy of Olly Brown, GOD of hamsters by Bethany Walker and illustrated by Jack Noel – which is publishing next month by Scholastic. We’ve just started reading it and we’ve been in stitches of laugher. It’s SO funny! Even for grown ups * and that’s saying something in the best possible way.

3. International Women’s Day

It wasn’t until a friend shouted over ‘Happy International Women’s Day’ that I even realised that was the day! Everything has been a blur here, so it was such a treat to have been included in this gorgeous line up of authors, illustrators and behind the scenes team from Owlet Press. Yay! Goosebumps!!!

4. A new read for me!

I love reading kids books with the little one. Not just because it’s a lovely thing to do together, but it’s also great inspiration for my own writing. I can reel off zillions of titles from the last couple of months, but then I realised that I haven’t actually read any grown ups books for quite a while. We are stuck inside for a bit longer *feels like forever!!! So, I’ve made a start on Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan. The writing is stunning, and I can feel myself being pulled in so quickly. It’s hard to put it down. If you’ve read it before, let me know what you thought?

Oh no! That is rubbish news about your girl breaking her leg. I hope she’s feeling OK, the poor thing. It sounds like she has been a complete star throughout the whole ordeal. x

  2. These really are fab things, Annette#dreamteam

  3. I’m glad she’s okay other than a broke leg. I hope she listens to the drs fully and she fully heals.

I have that book on my to-read list. I’ve heard so many good things about it.

  4. Lydia C. Lee says:

Whoa. That’s a big break if it needs pins. How stressful. And bummer on Lizzo. I saw her when she came here and it was half concert, half Oprah (we all came out feeling wonderfully great about ourselves). So fun. And 3/4 of the audience were gay men so the crowd was flamboyant and loud. It was fabulous! #Dreamteam

  5. I’m sorry your daughter broke her leg. She seems in good spirits though. I hope she heals quickly and can get her cast off before summer gets here.

  6. Poor kid. Hope she’s back on her feet soon. I’m actually an X Ray tech so I know if they operated it was a pretty significant injury. Best wishes #dreamteam

  7. Beth says:

Well, if you’re going to have a broke leg, at least the cast can be ginormous and awesome! She needs to get at on of art going on that thing. That might be a nice way to make her feel better.

  8. MELANIE E says:

Oh wow, brave little girl. Loving the cast though, great colour choice! God of Hamsters sounds like a great book. I am always on the look out for books my kids will enjoy.

  9. Karen says:

She is really really brave! Amazing…Go girl, you’re doing a fantastic job, we’re all proud of you.

  10. Oh my god – that is such a bad break! I hope that she heals up fast – and it’s so great that you had a fun game to play too.

  11. Rhian Westbury says:

How brave your daughter has been, I can’t imagine how tough it is breaking a leg. I’ve had mad honey on my TBR for a while so I need to get round to reading it soon x

  12. Marysa says:

That is scary that your little one broke her leg at school! You must have been upset to get that call from the school. Glad to hear she is on the mend.

  13. Melissa Cushing says:

Loving your Fab list ever and so sorry about your little ones leg! She looks like a trooper though and is handling it beautifully. I will have to check out that book above too as I am in need of a new good book so thank you for sharing!
