Geomag Glow Magnetic Construction Set – Review

Now more than ever, playtime away from screens feels so important. Screens are everywhere, and with technology so integrated into our every day, isn’t it great to set it aside for a little while. We’ve been making a big effort to do this since last year, with more focus on getting creative, and playing games as a family. We’ve ALL been loving the Geomag Glow Magnetic Construction Set, which is perfect for tinkerers, thinkers and makers aged 3+ all the way to grown ups.  Here’s what we thought.

Geomag Glow Magnetic Construction Set – Our Review

Construction sets are always going to be a winner in our house, especially as everyone can join in round the table. We find they encourage team work, communication and a lovely sense of achievement, as well as being educational. This Geomag Glow Magnetic Construction Set ticked all the boxes!

Here’s what you get in the box!

Each box, as above contains the following:

• 20 magnetic rods (glow in the dark)
• 20 spheres (used to join the the magnetic rods)
• 2 plastic building bases
• 2 storage boxes which keep everything in order and neatly stored

Immediately the little one spotted that this set is made of 100% recycled plastic #winning. Here are the storage boxes and rods/spheres.

Everything stacks in and out SO neatly! As a busy parent, there is nothing that I love more than a construction kit that comes with storage like this. When everything has a place, you know when it gets put away, nothing is going to roll out of the box.

Playtime!

The little one immediately made a bee line for this construction sheet. We love free play, but having a guide can be so useful when getting started, and seeing more advanced ideas is a fab way of igniting some creative construction ideas.

The magnetic pull when joining the rods together was pretty fascinating! And, the little one loved how easy it was to join the pieces when making or taking down models.

The plastic bases help to create a sturdy level to work from, but don’t have to be used.

Ready, steady, Geomag GLOW!

And…. can you believe it, this set actually glows in the dark. We had lots of fun making shapes and seeing what they looked like with the lights out.

Our overall thoughts

The Geomag Glow Magnetic Construction Set is so much fun! Not just for the littles, but also the grown ups too. No hearts ever sunk at the words ‘play with me?’ when this set came out to play. It’s tactile, easy and yet, complex as you like. And, the added glow feature takes things to a whole new level. This got the biggest thumbs up from everyone, and we would absolutely recommend Geomag.

The little one felt that this was a good starter set for beginners, but that more pieces would definitely be needed to try out bigger structures. So, it’s a good job there are loads more sets to bulk up your pieces with.

The Geomag Glow Magnetic Construction Set we have been playing with has 42 pieces. It’s priced at approximately £34.99, which is heading towards the much more pricier toy range. However, we’ve found that if you keep an eye on The Entertainer toy shop, they do have some great offers that come up on these sets.
