We LOVE little collectable toys in the Button house. Apart from being great pocket money buys, we also use them as rewards for amazing homework, spellings and special achievements. Little Button is super keen on collectables that come in ‘blind bag’ style packaging, so I couldn’t wait to show her something very special from Zapf Creation.
The completely adorable and brand new collectable toy – BABY born Surprise!
These are the littlest bundles of joy from the BABY born range of dolls. With 12 BABY born Surprise! characters to collect in this series, and each with over 10 surprises to find, there’s a whole heap of fun and giggles just waiting to be discovered. As like many pocket sized toys, these are aimed at children aged 3 years old and upwards. Little Button was very kindly gifted 3 to open for the purpose of this review and couldn’t wait to see which little baby dolls she was going to have the chance to meet.
I can’t tell you how excited she was to see these. As a fan of all things pink and girly, she couldn’t have asked for more!
Each BABY born Surprise! comes enveloped in a gorgeous soft fabric blanket, ready to unwrap. The fabric makes this surprise toy feel instantly luxurious, and, once out of its protective plastic wrapper, it’s very easy for little fingers to start opening.
Hidden under the fabric is a little pod which pops open.
And once inside, all tucked up in a stunning snuggly swaddle is the BABY born Surprise! Isn’t it just the cutest!
Inside the pod is also a blind bag. This contains a sweet little baby’s bottle. The colour of the bottle indicates whether you have a girl or a boy – if you haven’t been tempted to peek at baby just yet, it’s a lovely surprise element. We noticed that the bottles are very well made and soft to touch which is promising, as this is usually an indicator of how easy it will be to use for feeding.
And lastly, there is also a fun collectors guide with surprise games and a birth certificate.
The snuggly swaddle is easy to take off and on. Once removed, your little one can find out which BABY born Surprise! doll they have and uncover their characters hairstyle.
How adorable is the hair accessory!
Little Button had so much fun revealing each of her dolls eye colours. This can be done by wetting a piece of tissue and wiping away a layer over the eyes which looks a bit like ‘mummy’s make up’. But definitely not as messy I can assure you. Once the eyes are wiped clear, the characters beautiful big eyes are open! *This process can only be done once.
As like the larger BABY born dolls, these little cuties are able to be bottle fed with real water.
But watch out! Once they’ve had their fill, they will most definitely wet their nappy. The water will soak through the nappy to reveal a sweet pattern. Thankfully, as BABY born Surprise! dolls are so little, the water mess from these dolls isn’t too bad. Phew!
All but one doll completely emptied itself of the water. So I would say it’s worth giving them a quick check by shaking them over the sink before they get put out to air dry when your little one has finished playing with them.
There’s something about BABY born Surprise! that has left us feeling all warm, snug and content. I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s definitely something quite soothing about them that encouraged Little Button to play in a gentle and nurturing way.
She had so much fun unwrapping these, but unlike some of the other ‘blind bag’ collectable toys, once opened, she didn’t want to put them down. Continuing to play, long after all the surprises had been revealed.
I’m sure part of it is because they carry the same high quality design of the bigger BABY born range. But also because they are just so darn gorgeous.
Introducing…Petal, Phoebe and Ruby.
BABY born Surprise! can be found in Smyths, The Entertainer, Argos and other good toy stores. Priced around the £11.99 mark, we think these are fantastic value and would also make the sweetest of Easter gifts!

Oh this is just adorable. I know my daughter would love this.
I love this as a blind bag- so many of them have plastic tat that soon gets forgotten but this looks like a quality toy. Can’t wait for my little one to be old enough for things like this 🙂
Oh this is the sweetest idea ever! My girls love their dolls and the whole surprise element of toys, I bet they will love these!

So sweet. What a great gift.
I love the little swaddle, they look so cute. My daughter loves all surprise types of toys at the moment so would love unwraping these.

Looks like your daughter had lots of fun X #dremteam
So cute! I love the idea of giving little toys as rewards. Great idea!
Looks like a cute gift, although i don’t understand why they have to be separately plastic wrapped on top of their lovely cloth wrapping – seems unnecessary and overly hard to remove? #dreamteam
I expect it’s probably to prevent the fabric getting wet/dirty during transit. It is gorgeous though x
This is such a cute idea, I love how you can reveal more than just one thing and like you said they happily play with them longer than just opening them
This actually looks quite cute. I’m sure GinGin would love these! I’m not sure about the amount of packaging though.
