As an introduction, the picture book starts with a detailed close up and description of how to sign along to the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star rhyme. This was so useful, as we were able to practice signing in little bite sized chunks. It took us a while to get the hang of it, but because of how Lucy Rogers has illustrated each section, it’s such a delight to keep dipping in and out of, without being overwhelming.
After the introduction, the rhyme follows a group of friends and family going on an evening walk to look at the stars!
If you look closely, you’ll be able to see the children giving British Sign Language prompts so you can join in too.
We love how the illustrations show the children’s joy at signing and singing together.
As well as discovering some woodland creatures along the way.
There’s no question that this is a beautiful book to have in your little ones collection. Not only is it a gorgeous, and gentle telling of the Twinkle rhyme, but having the additional educational element of learning British Sign Language really sets it apart.
We love the warmth of the characters that sparkle and shine throughout the book. And the depth of the illustrations give so much to take in and enjoy, making it very re-readable. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by Lucy Rodgers would make a lovely gift, and a winner for the classroom too!
Illustrator Lucy Rogers is deaf, and grew up without seeing deaf characters in the books that she read. But now, she is a able to make a difference, and includes diverse and inclusive characters to inspire young disabled or deaf children. Yass!! #awesome #inspiring
