Day 0 of the kitchen and bathroom renovation- NOT quite in the groove… yet!

*This post should have gone up yesterday, so it’s actually day 5 of #blogtober20 now. Opps!!

It’s only day 4 of #Blogtober20 and I’ve already missed a day! Ekk!!! The prompts are telling me I should be in the groove today, but I’m far from being THAT.

We’re all a bundle of crazy excitement and flipperty gipperty nerves. Because tomorrow, after what feels like the longest wait EVER, our bathroom and kitchen renovation is stepping up a notch and totally a go-go!

In the beginning

When we first bought our home we knew the bathroom and kitchen needed updating (big time!). But, as we weren’t planning to stay for too long, we couldn’t make our minds up about what to do with them.

First comes love, then comes marriage…

…And then comes Little Button in a baby carriage a year later! Then things started to change. Our short work commute suddenly felt amazing! The park across the road became extremely appealing. And, the outstanding school within a stones throw felt like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. With exception to a few niggles, our home was starting to give off that ‘love it – don’t list it’ vibe that I hadn’t felt before. So, we decided to give it a better shot with the renovations.

Kitchen design disaster!

We soon discovered that we’d have to do a joint kitchen and bathroom renovation because of the way the pipes ran. This seemed fine in theory, but we just couldn’t get a good design for the kitchen done AT ALL. Every showroom we went to designed it in almost exactly the same way it was already was – with a weird unit finish that went over part of the window or just abruptly finished awkwardly. And, no one could work out what to do with the bay window area. After what felt like the hundredth hour wasted, we sort of gave up for a bit *whistles… for quite a few years. Gulp.

Then by chance…

We stumbled into Wren Kitchens! Yes, Wrens. I know thats going to get some backs up, but honestly, for us it was the best thing to have happened. Nicole, our designer, instantly saw the problem areas and totally designed the pants off our kitchen. Like some kind of magical wizard kitchen genius, she just instinctively knew. In no time at all, we had the perfect design, a date set for the whole project and then…

Covid happened

It’s now a go-go (again)!

Covid is still around, but, with our kitchen and bathroom crumbling to pieces around us, we couldn’t not go ahead with our rearranged renovation date tomorrow. Ekk!!

A million emotions have raced through me today. I’m so excited, but also worried about how we’re going to cope without a kitchen for 3 to 4 weeks and no bathroom for 2 weeks *oh my gawd!!! I’m so thankful for our Harry Potter under the stairs style toilet. But… you know, can’t wash your hair in a toilet *sobs!

It will be sooooo worth it though!
