BABY born Soft Touch Doll Review

May 30, 2020

When I think back to when I was little, there was nothing quite so comforting as my dolly Jemima. We went everywhere together. Fast forward to today and my Little Button mirrors exactly how I used to play. Testing out new vocabulary in role play games with her dolls, reading to them, acting out ideas and scenes and of course gaining comfort from her beloved favourites.

When you’re little, a snuggle with your dolly can make the world seem right again.

She was beyond delighted when asked to review the new BABY born soft touch doll. She already has the older version of the BABY born doll, so I couldn’t wait to see how the newer version would match up, and if the upgrade would be worth adding to the collection from a parents point of view.

As like all the BABY born products, it comes beautifully (and tightly* so make sure you have scissors to hand) packaged up, making it an absolute treasure to give as a gift.

Once out of the packaging, you will find:

That’s a whole lot of accessories included in the price! Personally, and knowing how Little Button plays, the extras are an absolute bonus and makes this a very rounded and complete set.

Let’s play

As soon as Little Button had the doll in her arms (asleep already!) she could feel the difference with the new soft touch body. It has a much less plasticy feel all over and the middle of the doll has a significant squish to it. She loves this added feature and said that her doll was really comfortable to hold and felt like she could be holding a real baby!

Also very noticeable with the new model of the doll is that it’s arms move much more freely. This makes dressing and undressing a breeze! I had a good look at the arm joints and they not only move forwards and backwards, but also pivot a little out to the sides up and down. *Perfect for parents who really can’t stand ‘dressing dolly’ for the hundredth time in a day because the arms are too tight!

BABY born eats and drinks

A feature of the new BABY born soft touch doll is that it eats and drinks. Of course, Little Button was thrilled! The set only comes with 1 portion of baby food, so it’s worth investing in a few more sachets to avoid disappointment. A box of 12 sachets is approximately £4.99. The baby food needs to be mixed with water in the provided plate with the dinky spoon. She adored ‘making’ her doll food and feeding her.

You can also fill the dolls bottle with fresh tap water for drinking.

As with anything, what goes in…usually comes out one way or another. This BABY born does wee’s and poo’s on the potty (or in it’s nappy) when it’s tummy is gently squished. Something which all little ones seem to relish with glee!

And… she cries too! Just look at that face. Big fat tears come with a gentle squeeze to the upper chest area.

Our overall thoughts

Little Button is absolutely smitten with the new BABY born soft touch doll! And, with my parents hat on, I’m very impressed as well.

We think that the usual attention to detailing –  from the gorgeous plump arms to the pretty sculpted toes (with toe nails!) – makes this a fantastic and lasting buy for children aged 3 years plus. However, it’s the nine lifelike functions (she’s also fully bathable) that really make this doll extra loveable and opens up so many more play possibilities for endless fun.
