These paper plate Spring chicks are so fun to make and can add a lovely splash of colour around the house. They also make a fab pairing with chapter book “The Hen Who Wouldn’t Give Up” by Jill Tomlinson, which follows the story of Hilda and her egg laying antics. It makes for a lovely read out loud story for little ones.
What you will need:
1. First, draw and cut out your Spring chicks wings. It doesn’t matter how big or small these are so let your little one use their imaginations and come up with their own chicks personality.
2. Next, paint your paper plate and wings yellow and leave to dry.
3. Cut two strips of card (one in each colour) for the legs. You need to create a concertina by sticking the two ends together and then folding each colour one on top of the other. When you’ve folded it all the way to the end, stick the two end pieces together. Have fun trying this out with different lengths of card.
4. Finally, stick your Spring chick together! We added a beak and eyes first. Then stuck on our chicks wings. Then lastly stuck on the legs. We used sticky pads to hold the legs on, rather than glue, to stop them springing off.
Ta-dah! Paper plate Spring chicks that add a splash of colour and are fun to play with too. Enjoy!
